HTHS Chess Team Dominates at the Shore High School Chess League Championship Tournament
On Wednesday 2/23/22, the Chess Team competed in the Shore High School Chess League Championship Tournament that was held at Monmouth Mall. The varsity team consisted of Eshan Guha, Indus Boddu, Abhinav Ramidi, Ivan Wong, and Kevin Guan.
In the first round of the 3 round tournament High Tech defeated Toms River East 5 to 0. In the second round, they also defeated perennial powerhouse and arch-rival CBA by a score of 5 to 0.
For the 14th consecutive year, High Tech had made it into the Shore HS Chess League Championship Match!! High Tech was pitted against Manalapan HS in a rematch of last years’ championship match. Last year’s match went down to the final board, but there would be no drama this year. The Fab Five dominated the match en route to another 5 to 0 win. This is the first time that a team from High Tech has ever won all 15 games in the Championship Tournament!!
So, CONGRATULATIONS TO THE SHORE HIGH SCHOOL CHESS LEAGUE CHAMPIONS for 2022!!!
This is the 4th consecutive championship and 5th in the last 6 years.
Additionally, High Tech had 3 players competing in the Extras Tournament. The tournament field consisted of 36 players from 12 schools. Congratulation to Extras Tournament Champion Alex Postovskiy who was the only player to win all 6 of his games. Ben Shain had 4 wins to finish in a tie for 5th place and Albert Dong battled his way to a highly respectable 3 and a half points.
