HTHS Competes at Shore High School Chess League Championship Tournament
On Wednesday 2/28, the Chess Team competed in the Shore High School Chess League Championship Tournament that was held at Monmouth Mall. The varsity team consisted of Eshan Guha, Michael Kang, Alex Lin, Harrison Mesh, and Zac Levy
In the first round of the 3 round tournament High Tech defeated Toms River East by a score of 5 to 0. In the second round, they defeated South Brunswick HS also by a score of 5 to 0.
So, for the 16th consecutive year, High Tech had made it into the Shore HS Chess League Championship Match!! High Tech was pitted against arch-rival CBA. High Tech dominated the match on their way to another 5 to 0 win. The team won every game in every round in the Championship Tournament!!
So, CONGRATULATIONS TO THE SHORE HIGH SCHOOL CHESS LEAGUE CHAMPIONS for 2024!!!
This is the 6th consecutive championship and 7th title in the last 8 years.
Additionally, High Tech had 3 players competing in the Extras Tournament. The Extras Tournament field consisted of 68 players from 14 schools. Abigail Marinaccio and Abhinav Kartik each had 4 wins out of 5 games to finish in a tie for 3rd place with 11 other players. Henry Liu earned 3 wins in his 5 games to finish in 14th place.
